Dr. Robert L. Burns
(Bob) retired to Charlotte County in 1999
after more than 30 years of experience in
education. Bob had brought his family to
the Charlotte County area for vacations and
holidays since his student days at
University of Florida, and they fell in love
with the area years ago. He served colleges
and universities in Wisconsin, Kentucky,
Kansas and Nebraska in teaching and
administrative positions, including being
president of two different public
institutions.
Bob and his wife Pat are
native Kentuckians and have two sons (one in
Wisconsin and one in Michigan) and not
enough grandchildren yet. He is a U.S.
Army veteran and served in northern Germany
for nearly three years. He enjoys fishing,
gardening, the beaches, travel, and the
history of this region.
At 63, Bob is
interested in doing what he can to help the
community that is now his year-round home.
He currently is serving as Executive
Director of Florida Gulf Coast
University-Charlotte, with responsibilities
to establish and enhance the university’s
role in this county.
