City Manager’s
Office
-
City Manager and staff from Finance, Community
Development and Administrative Services met to
review process improvements for Historic
Preservation demolition and renovation requests
and prepare financial impacts of recommendations
by the Historic Preservation Advisory Board.
We will be asking demolition permit requests use
the short legal description form as a tool to
resolve address issues.

City Manager addressed the Punta Gorda Chamber
of Commerce and highlighted our upcoming
strategic planning workshop, budget issues and
project implementation. The audience
recommended we continue with our efforts to
disseminate public information in as many forums
and communication as feasible.
Administrative
Services
Building
-
The Bob Vila show shot their first two segments
Monday and Tuesday.
-
The Building Department took in $48,997.18 in
permit fees and performed 446 inspections.
Facilities Maintenance
-
Working on preparations for painting of City
Hall Council Room, which is tentatively
scheduled for the weekend of June 18-19.
-
Remodeled Annex 2nd Floor Permit Area
to enhance customer service.
Fleet
-
Hurricane Charley Vehicle Repair Status - 71.31%
Complete
GIS
-
City GIS prepared address observations for use
by and delivery to Charlotte County GIS/MSBU.
-
Public Works has requested that GIS develop
program and test a GIS application to be
delivered and used by Public Works Sign crew to
inventory “Regulatory Signs” for the entire
city. The requested date for delivery is July 1,
2005.
MIS
-
Completed the City's Computer, Internet and
E-Mail Standard Operating Procedure and
presented to City Manager for his approval.
City Manager approved and policy is in the
process of being distributed to all departments
by Human Resources. All signed documents are
due back by June 17th.

Completed the move of telephones and the
installation of computers in the Building
Department's reception renovated area.

Set up
E-mail access for the Mayor, Vice-Mayor, and
Councilmembers so they may access their District
E-mail accounts directly rather than having mail
forwarded from City Clerk. We are working with
City Clerk on testing the procedure. Prepared
written procedures for Council which City Clerk
has reviewed and approved. City Clerk will be
meeting individually with Council on the
procedure for access, as well as ensuring they
have a copy of the City's SOP for Computers,
Internet and E-Mail usage.

Police Department
-
On the evening of Thursday, June 9th
Punta Gorda Police Detectives arrested three
subjects at Gilchrist Park for narcotics
possession. Additionally, five subjects were
suspected of underage drinking and sent home to
their parents, two of which received tobacco
violations.
-
The new police patrol boat was outfitted and
placed into service.
-
Command Staff, in conjunction with Public Works
and Kiwanis, completed final preparations for
the annual city Fourth of July festivities next
month.
Fire Department
-
On June 9, 2005 C-Shift responded to the area of
Henry and Maud for a vehicle that collided with
a house. There was one injury and the house
suffered damage.
-
Two PGFD personnel participated in a total of
four events during the 2005 Firefighter Olympics
being held in Polk County this year.
Participation this year resulted in personnel
winning a Gold Medal and a top quarter finish.

Chief attended the Executive Fire Officers
Program Graduate Symposium at the National Fire
Academy in Emmitsburg, MD last week. The
keynote speaker was Cmdr Scott Waddell, USN
retired, and author of the book The Right
Thing (an excellent leadership resource).
Department of Community Development
-
Set dates for “Design Studio” to be held in
Council Chambers to assist engineers,
contractors, etc. with newly adopted Land
Development Regulations and to review future
projects.
-
Met with Chairman of the Beautification
Committee and Administrative Services to review
and discuss code violations of old DRC landscape
violations and scheduling of Beautification
Committee projects in Procurement.
-
Met with Jim Sanders of Five Star Realty/Sand
Star Construction about the office building he
is proposing at the corner of Maud St and Marion
Ave. The proposed building exceeds both the
maximum height and the maximum number of square
feet allowed under the Land Development
Regulations.
-
Met with developer of Scott/Olympia property to
discuss annexation into city limits.
-
Received the final Design Development for the
Wayfinding System; distributed to City Council
and Revitalization Committee for their review.
