budget to provide information as to how the money received was utilized (services provided) and their request for FY 2006 funding, if any.  In addition, the organizations are to provide financial statements to accompany their funding request.

The Action Register is now on the City’s website and will be updated from time to time.

Staff is updating cost estimates for moving the Freeman House and annual maintenance and renovation thereafter.  The financial information will accompany the Donation Agreement soon to be presented to City Council.

Florida Department of Community Affairs is putting on a Disaster Recovery Workshop to afford us an opportunity to learn more about state and federal programs earmarked for recovery projects.  The City’s Community Development and Finance Departments will be represented at the Workshop.  We will be looking for possible funding for our Public Works Complex, Laishley Park, and Fire Station #2.

The City Manager and Community Development Director will be meeting with Charlotte County’s representatives to develop an interlocal agreement pertaining to the $9 million grant that the City and County jointly applied for and are awaiting notification.

The City Manager’s handout was taken from Small Cities Publishing and provides Seven Tips to Redirect Anger and Encourage Issue Resolution:

  • Give accurate, timely and appropriate information; don’t hide things pertinent to a public decision.
  • Give people the opportunity to do the right thing without being forced to do so.
  • Give everyone a voice in the decisions that affect them, and listen to what they say.
  • Give everyone respect.
  • Provide choices.
  • Don’t manipulate people or the community involvement process.
  • No matter how heated the discussion gets…preserve self esteem.

The Police Chief handed out an Ethical Dilemma Test developed by the National Institute of Ethics:

  • Am I acting out of anger, lust, peer pressure or greed?
  • Is my decision legal?
  • Would I do it if my family were standing beside me?
  • How will it make me feel in 20 years?
  • Is it worth my job and career?
  • What would I do if I were being videotaped?
  • Would my loved ones be proud or ashamed?
  • Am I following the Golden Rule?

Human Resources will be providing training on interviewing and hiring procedures for employees involved with making hiring decisions.

Community Development – A letter received from Florida Power & Light states that they will be changing out six to eight of their towers in Laishley Park.  They will be undergrounding the distribution electrical wires.  Only the transmission lines will remain above ground, and they will be fifty to sixty feet high.
