provide him with a list of State funding requests
for the FY 2007 fiscal year. Department Directors
are to turn in their requests to the City Manager by
August 1, and these requests will be presented to
City Council for their review, revision and approval
in August.
The City Manager is initiating a new team-building
program – “Pizza with the City Manager”. Once a
month, eight employees from various departments will
be randomly selected by their birth month and
invited to have lunch with the City Manager on a
specified date. If selected, please bring your
ideas to share with your fellow colleagues.
Roofs are being worked on by
the City’s contractor on four different City
facilities. In addition, the City Council Chambers
will be repainted in the near future.
The City Manager has requested
Procurement begin preparation of a request for
proposal for Construction Manager at Risk for
Laishley Park, and an at Risk Management Contract
for the Public Works/Utilities/Billing & Collection
complex. We will be presenting these alternative
approaches to City Council on June 8th
and want to be ready to proceed after discussion
with the policy makers.
Human Resources
– A draft policy on pay during emergency
events is being reviewed by department directors.
Following review, it will go to City Council for
approval.
Fire Department
– The Fire Chief and Police Major will be
attending the Hurricane Caravan tonight. Fire
Department is working on hiring a contract person to
assist in Plans Review. “Hot Shots”, a fire
prevention tool, is the latest addition to the
City’s web page. Check it out at

Police Department
reported that a member of the national media
from FOX news is going to do a story on Punta Gorda
Police Department’s Sex Offender Program. More
details will be forthcoming on when the story is to
air.
Public Works
was proud to announce that the landscape
maintenance on Hwy 41 has been completed. They will
continue to monitor and take care of the needed
mowing and trimming. The next roadway that they
will target is Martin Luther King Boulevard.
