The City Manager has received good feedback on the
recent Council workshop. We plan to schedule more
of them in the future to inform Council on progress
of specific projects.
The
“Be Prepared – Hurricane Preparedness” brochure that
the City put out in the past will be updated. The
Police Chief will have a draft ready in a month.
At
the recent joint City/County meeting, the County
reaffirmed its position to retain the Punta Gorda
Library at its current location. The County is also
looking to locate a regional library facility in the
South County area.
Human Resources reminded directors of the
Interview Training a week from tomorrow at 9:00 a.m.
to be held in the Police Department Training Room.
They will also have a new employment application
form and processing method to be “unveiled” that
day.
The
Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) is
beginning a study on US 41. They will be looking at
the busy intersections and land use along Route
41. Requesting the speed limit be reduced to 35 mph
from the bridge down to Pompano was discussed.
Finance Department announced that they will restart
their water shut-off enforcement program. It had
been suspended after Hurricane Charley.
Police Department are taking any final
comments on the Emergency Management Plan.
Progress on the cleaning of the original City Hall
continues as well as renovation of the second
floor. The City Clerk’s office should soon be able
to move back in.
Administrative Services said that the generator bid
for the City Hall Annex came in at $25,000. This
generator will be used to keep the MIS function
operational during power outages.
Council Chambers will be painted this weekend.
The
City will be embarking on a new project in the
coming weeks. A comprehensive review of our
performance measures will be undertaken in order to
accompany our efforts to set strategic objectives.

PGI Canal Maintenance:

Heavy rains over the past week have caused the
failure of approximately 240 feet of seawall at
three locations – Lot 13 & 14, Block 178 on
Woodthrush Dr. (100 feet), 1006 San Mateo Dr.
(80 feet) and LaCosta Island Ct. (60
feet) in PGI. The rains have also delayed
completion of other seawall and seawall cap
replacement projects.

Seawall replacement on Columbian Dr. scheduled
for completion week of 6/20/05 due to rain
delay.

Work by division employees on seawall cap
replacement at Woodthrush Dr. with 400’ has been
completed; 100’ remain to be replaced; delayed
due to rain.

Division maintenance crews have filled sinkholes
at 36 locations.
