blessing. We’ve all heard the saying,
“I love Humanity, it’s people I can’t stand!” Often we end
this with a chuckle, acknowledging the sad irony behind it.
Children and the elderly
redeem us. The following poem was given to me by my loving
daughter years ago when we lived on the Gulf Coast near
Venice.
TREASURES IN A TIN CAN
Of all the articles in
her tin can
and the Indian money I buried as surprise,
nothing could compare to the thing she said”
“You’re the treasure in my mind!”
We have no maps to each other,
so let us never forget the way.
I think it is safe to
say that the sum of our lives has its base in our
relationship to this way. Indeed, we have no maps to
anything connected with our spiritual lives. But we know
love, loyalty, enthusiasm, and trust. We understand these
things simply from the nobility of consciousness that
chooses to take one or another path. Let us remember these
pivotal moments and choose wisdom. Let us hold, each of us,
to a mysterious treasure. Often a treasure we least
expected. Let us be strong in the wilderness and find our
way without maps or any special knowledge.
By exercising our
inherent nobility we may come to an unexpected magic – we
may come to conversations we never expected.
And be all the richer
for them.
