CHIEF
EXECUTIVE OFFICER
Today, Mr. Bufton’s daughter, Carolyn Bufton Elman, Chief
Executive Officer carries out her fathers’ vision. Mrs.
Elman has helped thousands of women obtain their education
and training by instituting comprehensive business education
programs.
Ms.
Elman is a recognized leader in American Business and is an
authority on workplace issues that affect women. Through
her affiliations with Leadership America, the U.S.
Department of Labor Women’s Bureau and the Glass Ceiling
Commission, she has offered testimony and insight in solving
economic and social dilemmas of the American Society.
“ABWA is not the same association that it was 50 years ago,”
says Elman. “By continually reinventing itself, ABWA is able
to give women what they want today in a professional
organization. We follow business trends very closely, and
with years of experience upon which to draw, ABWA is able to
provide members with the professional tools they need to
stay current and to succeed in today’s market.”
The keys to ABWA’s success include developing different
membership options and securing critical strategic
alliances. Working with such preeminent groups as the
prestigious Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation, which focuses
solely on entrepreneurial success, and Franklin Covey, the
acclaimed time-management organization, allows ABWA to
provide members with exceptional resources at below-market
rates.
New ground was broken in 2003 with the ABWA-KU MBA
Essentials program. This unprecedented learning opportunity
provides master’s degree level basics in a variety of
critical business subjects. The top-notch curriculum is
designed and taught by faculty from the highly regarded
University of Kansas School of Business and its KU Center
for Management Education.
EDUCATION
AND PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
ABWA belief is that education and training is the key to
personal and professional development, especially in today’s
world. ABWA has formed
special partnerships to bring you training programs from two
of the best on-line learning providers,
QuicKnowledge and
Norwich University. You will find topics that range from
"Achieving Goals" to "Leadership Skills for Women." The cost
is affordable and you can “study” any time you choose. The
courses are short; most can be completed in 2 hours. If you
get interrupted, just log back in to where you left off.
A certificate of completion is available for most
business-related and computer courses. The Association
encourages education by providing Professional Development
courses in which you gain continuing education credit hours;
Professional Development Seminars at conferences and
conventions including Franklin Covey and ABWA-KU MBA
Essentials. Members also receive discounts on career
focused books and audiotapes, seminars by nationally
recognized speakers and computer application classes.
Next topic will be on the demographics of the American
Business Women.
