Charlotte Harbor as the Regatta is one of over 40
held annually across the US) collected over $64,000-
to donate to the Society. This year, the
committee, led by Jan Randles and Chris Webb, is aiming for
even more. The principal sailing activity is a
series of three races in four different classes
which will be held in the general vicinity of Peace
River Markers N0.s 1, 2, 3 and 4. Entrants are
required to obtain sponsors, using a fund raising
kit supplied
by the two clubs, and prizes are awarded to both the
winning boats as well as those skippers who raise
the most money. In addition, there will be
associated tennis, golf and power boat predictive
log events as well as a Saturday Barbeque and a
Sunday Gala Banquet with both silent and live
auctions. The registration and prize giving as well
as all the social events will be held in the
temporary tents at the Isles Yacht Club on West
Marion Avenue, Punta Gorda.
So if you want to see why the
Harbor is fast becoming one of the premier sailing
and racing areas, come out and watch the gathering
of the sailboats. Racing starts at 11:00 am, on
both days and the multi-colored sails should provide
a spectacular sight. More details, entry forms and
information is available on the Punta Gorda Sailing
Club web-site at
