the smaller breeds. Each section has its own water
fountain which is very unique.
The fountains have two levels. One level is for the
dog owners which is comparable to a standard water
fountain that you would find at any recreational
area. The other level is low to the ground so that
the dogs can drink from it. There are benches and
tables and even a fire hydrant to accommodate some
of the former male city dweller pooches. There are
refuse areas where plastic bags (poop containers)
can be obtained and special covered refuse
containers where the plastic bags should be
deposited. There is plenty of room to allow the dogs
to run and play and even toy baskets containing
balls and Frisbees supplied by the dog owners for
all the dogs to enjoy. The City has provided a
shovel and rake to allow participants to fill in fox
or should I say dog holes.
The park is a wonderful place for both dogs and dog
owners. The social life of the dogs and dog owners
is definitely enhanced and I know I have met some
really wonderful people whom I see just about every
day that I would probably not have had the pleasure
to know if it were not for my visiting the park. My
wife and I have accumulated quite a few years under
our belts and walking our pooches on a leash for any
distance is not an option. They have grown to be
stronger and we have grown to be weaker. Now, all I
have to do is allow the dogs to hop into my car,
drive to the dog park and let them run free to chase
balls or to play with their doggie friends to their
hearts delight and allow us humans an opportunity to
visit with other dog lovers.
My wife and I are sure all the other dog owners
thank the City of Punta Gorda for making this dog
park available, where I have seen as many as 30 dogs
at one time enjoying this terrific addition to our
community and our social lives. I visit the park
twice a day and listen for the "poop alert" and hear
the dogs romping and making sounds of joy as they
"dog play" while I catch up on the latest from the
folks of the dog community.
Hounds On Henry Street Dog Park is another asset to
our paradise here in Punta Gorda!
