Their home for the
holidays have been travel trailers or small
mobile homes snuggled closely together, in less than
attractive surroundings.
While we can rejoice that for most, help was and
continues to be available. However, let us not forget
that on these chilly New Year's nights there are people,
right here in Punta Gorda, without a warm place to lay
down and rest. Yes, some of these folks were in similar
situations pre-Charley, but all to often they were not.
As our own personal surroundings improve and normalcy
returns, may we all look beyond our neighborhoods and
continue to reach out to those who are still in the mist
of turmoil.
With all that said, isn't it thrilling to see our city
moving ahead? Out of our greatest struggles often comes
our greatest accomplishments. In Charlotte County and
Punta Gorda in particular, we have a wonderful
opportunity to design our futures. Let's all work with
our politicians to assure forward thinking, planning and
timely actions. It would be a shame to squander the
moment and waste the opportunity given to us.
2005 brings a new year of new hope for the residents of
Punta Gorda. Whether full or part-time, young or old,
together we hold the clay in our hands..... Let us mold
carefully, but mold mighty!
