Coping with stress:

Have we had enough stress lately? Not only do we have the everyday stress of managing our homes, our families and our businesses, we have been overwhelmed by the stress of pending hurricanes!

recent bout of storms, pending storms, cleanup and destruction is hard for even me to cope with. Everywhere we look there is debris, businesses are destroyed and our routines are disrupted. I find the routine disruption the most difficult part to deal with, including the loss of my exercise spa. So, the first thing I did was purchase some more weights so that I could keep up that part of my routine. However, it is surprising how quickly one’s muscles can atrophy as the weeks speed by and I have found that not performing my regular exercises have had a negative impact on my ability to perform tasks that were formerly a piece of cake.

Planning is a big part of dealing with stress relief and today I am going to buy some new tennis shoes and take out a membership at a new gymnasium. After my noon meeting, the next part of my plan is to resume my regular exercise routine.

One of the most important aspects of  maintaining your sanity when life seems upside down, is getting back to your routines - eating at regular mealtimes, drinking lots of water and getting enough sleep.

Exercise will really help, whether it’s walking, running, bicycling, tennis, weights or working out at your spa. Meditation is also good for the body and soul and takes some practice to be able to eliminate extraneous noise and focus on your breathing and a restful place to take your mind.
