savoring its dark, light and white varieties. Eyes sparkle as tongues encircle its rich, sweet mass. Whether crunching, munching or slurping, taste buds savor its presence in the mouth.

Aromatic steam rising from a cup of hot cocoa warms body and spirit on a chilly winter morning. Biting lustily into a crisp cookie brimming with chocolate chips satisfies an after-lunch sweet tooth. An elegant feast or a fast food dinner are equally well capped by a generous slice of melt-in-the-mouth devil's food cake spread with creamy chocolate frosting or a feathery light chocolate mousse.

Special occasions free the conscience of chocolate candy freaks: they can indulge their addiction in the guise of celebrating. For this group of chocoholics, a visit to Hershey, Pennsylvania imparts a state of ecstasy. At the sight of streetlights in the form of large silver or brown chocolate kisses, they think they're in heaven. Some visitors to Hershey hyperventilate attempting to breathe in more of the chocolate aroma penetrating the air.

Even the least discriminating fan of the cocoa bean, someone who likes it any way they can get it, has a personal favorite. Mine could serve as a substitute meal, contains chocolate in four forms, and induces a tinge of guilt as the last spoonful slides easily down my throat. Like one of Pavlov's experimental dogs, my mouth waters in anticipation when I glimpse the waitress bearing the queen of deserts

on her tray. Worshipful eyes follow its passage from server to table and imaginary trumpets blare when it rests only inches from my face. I eagerly pull the warm plate closer, poised to bring about the disappearance of the brown and white mound, mouthful by luscious mouthful. Getting directly to its essence, I spoon a piece of fresh baked brownie dotted with nuts and swathed with a generous layer of frosting. I chew slowly, treating every one of my gustatory cells to its charms. Next comes a spoonful of creamy French vanilla ice cream, dripping with hot fudge sauce, topped with clouds of fluffy whipped cream and delicate chocolate curls. My taste sensation scale leaps to a plus ten. This is in a class by itself.

External distractions fade as I concentrate on my undertaking. Gradually, as the plate cools and its sinful contents disappear, my reverie in chocolate heaven concludes and I return to earth. I am prepared to continue with everyday events, well fortified with the ultimate chocolate fix. Whenever I feel out-of-sorts, the memory of a warm brownie fudge sundae lifts my spirit to soar with the angels, whom I'm sure munch on it regularly.
